“THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT” OPENED 2021 WITH A WEEKLY WIN, A LIVE WEDNESDAY AND MASSIVE ONLINE VIEWS

For the week ending Friday, Jan. 8 (week #16 of the 2020-2021 broadcast season), in live plus 3-day lift, THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT averaged an audience of 3.40 million viewers, beating “Jimmy Kimmel Live” (1.79m) by +90% and “The Tonight Show” (1.59m) by +114%. This was THE LATE SHOW’s second-largest weekly audience this season (behind the week ending Nov. 27, 2020).

On Wednesday, Jan. 6, following an unprecedented day of turmoil in Washington D.C., Stephen went live from his studio at New York’s Ed Sullivan Theater and delivered 3.93 million viewers, posting the largest Wednesday three-day audience since Feb. 5, 2020. On Friday, Jan. 8, the show delivered 3.77 million viewers – posting the largest Friday three-day audience since Nov. 22, 2019. 

Season-to-date, THE LATE SHOW is first in viewers (3.14m), leading “Jimmy Kimmel Live” by +76% (versus 1.78m) and “The Tonight Show” by +101% (versus 1.56m). THE LATE SHOW is also leading both competitors’ late night offerings in adults 25-54 (0.5 versus 0.4) and adults 18-49 (0.4 versus 0.3).

Finally, for the week ending Jan. 8, THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT was the #1 late night show across all online platforms for total views of current content (clips posted during the week). THE LATE SHOW topped the closest competition on YouTube by a staggering 20 million views. Colbert’s Wednesday and Thursday night monologues in the wake of the attack on the U.S. Capitol Building performed exceptionally well with Wednesday night’s live monologue amassing 15.5 million total views across YouTube and Facebook, and Thursday night’s drawing 11 million total views across the two platforms.
