CBS NEWS IS HONORED WITH FOUR AWARDS AT THE 26TH ANNUAL NEWS AND DOCUMENTARY EMMY AWARDS CEREMONY

ACADEMY PAYS TRIBUTE TO DAN RATHER

CBS News was awarded four News and Documentary Emmy Awards by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Dan Rather, who has been nominated nearly 80 times and has won 29 Emmys, was honored by the Academy for more than 50 years of exemplary reporting. The awards were presented last night (19) at a ceremony in New York City.

Following are the four Emmy Awards received by the Division, by broadcast:

SUNDAY MORNING
Outstanding Feature Story in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast -- "Net Gain." Anchor Charles Osgood reports on "Playing for Peace," a basketball group created by Americans to bring strife-torn children of different religions and races together. Brian Healy was the producer and Patrick Lee was the editor.

60 MINUTES
Outstanding Continuous Coverage of a News Story in a News Magazine -- "The Murder of Emmett Till." Correspondent Ed Bradley reports on the possibility of justice in a 50-year-old racial murder in Mississippi for which no one was convicted. Michael Radutzky was the producer and Daniel Panarello was the editor.

60 MINUTES II
Outstanding Feature Story in a News Magazine -- "Garden of Eden." Christiane Amanpour visits a pristine forest where gorillas have never encountered humans. Andrew Tkach was the producer and Leon Ferguson was the editor.

CBS EVENING NEWS WITH DAN RATHER
Outstanding Investigative Journalism in a Regularly Scheduled Newscast -- "The Enron Tapes." Correspondent Vince Gonzales?obtains exclusive audiotapes?of Enron traders?gloating as they help?create, and?profit from, the Western power crisis. Barbara Pierce was the producer. Frank Walters and Susan Ottalini were the editors.

Included in the tribute to Rather were thoughts from his colleagues Tom Bettag, Tom Brokaw, Marvin Kalb, Rick Kaplan, Ted Koppel, Brian Williams, Susan Zirinsky and former Secretary of Defense William S. Cohen.
