TWO STRONG BLACK WOMEN

When Dr. Loretta Wade (CCH Pounder) and Mayor Zahra Taylor (Amanda Warren) get together to de-stress from everything happening on NCIS: NEW ORLEANS (this Sunday 9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT), the conversation turns serious about the pressures facing Black women when Loretta mentions that her son is mad at her for not letting him go to a protest:

Mayor Zahra Taylor: That’s a lot to carry, Loretta.

Dr. Loretta Wade: That’s what I keep telling him.

Zahra: I’m talking about you…

Loretta: Me? I’m fine. I’m a “strong black woman.” I don’t get to be anything but fine.

Zahra: Well, this strong black woman is struggling. Arguing more with my husband. Getting three hours of sleep a night…and when I can close my eyes, I can’t rest for worrying about the city. I’m running on fumes, Loretta. And I’m not too proud to admit it.

Loretta: Now that’s the brave face our mothers force on us.

Zahra: Heaven forbid a woman, especially a black woman, shows the least bit of righteous anger.

Loretta: Just shifts so quickly from strong black woman to ‘angry black woman’ in these people’s eyes.

Zahra: And a thin line between them. I swear sometimes I can’t breathe. The pressure I’m under is so crushing.

Loretta (pouring another glass of wine): This helps.

Zahra: Does it?

Loretta: Takes the edge off. Keeps me sane.

Zahra: But does it give you peace?

THE PROPOSAL IS RIGHT!

Kyle Davis from Los Angeles didn’t make it on stage to play a pricing game or spin the wheel on THE PRICE IS RIGHT, but he won the greatest prize of all after proposing to his girlfriend during the show last Monday, Dec. 7. Post-airdate spoiler alert: she said yes!
