CBS PRIMETIME RATINGS HIGHLIGHTS FOR THE WEEK ENDING SUNDAY, AUGUST 9

Summer 2020 has been an unusual time for television, with the current pandemic prohibiting studios from creating their usual array of new content. However, programmers are doing everything they can to be resourceful, and CBS’ primetime ratings for last week are a clear reflection of that. So here are some abbreviated highlights for the week ending Sunday, August 9:

PRIMETIME – Summer-to-Date

  • With the return of BIG BROTHER and the 102nd PGA Championship in primetime on both Saturday and Sunday, CBS won the week in viewers and key demos.

  • BIG BROTHER-WEDNESDAY was the #1 show of the week in adults 18-49 and adults 25-54, while BIG BROTHER-SUNDAY was #2 in adults 18-49 (tie).

  • Summer-to-date, CBS is #1 in total viewers.

Prime Programs of Note – National Ratings

Tuesday, August 4

  • The CBS News special JOHN LEWIS: CELEBRATING A HERO (10:00-11:00 PM) delivered 2.93 million viewers and 0.5 among adults 25-54.

Wednesday, August 5

  • CBS was #1 for the night in all key metrics with its best Wednesday P2+ and demo ratings this summer.

  • The two-hour premiere of BIG BROTHER was the night’s #1 program in key demos.

  • At 8:00 PM, TOUGH AS NAILS posted another week of viewer gains, best since its premiere broadcast, and held steady week-to-week in the key demos. TOUGH AS NAILS was the night’s most-watched broadcast and #2 in key demos.

Thursday, August 6

  • CBS was first in viewers with encores of YOUNG SHELDON and MOM ranking as the night’s top two broadcasts.

Friday, August 7

  • THE GREATEST #ATHOME VIDEOS on CBS was the night’s #1 broadcast in total viewers and grew by +14% from its prior week performance.

Saturday, August 8

  • Saturday’s third round of the PGA Championship earned 3.28 million viewers

Sunday, August 9

  • Sunday’s final round of the 2020 PGA Championship, won by Collin Morikawa averaged 5.15 million viewers from 3:00-9:07 PM, ET:

  •  
    • 2020’s 5.15 million viewer average is up +3% from 2019 (5.02m)

    • Coverage peaked from 8:30-8:45 PM, ET with 6.87 million viewers. The Network averaged more than six million viewers from 7:00-8:45 PM, ET on Sunday night.

  • The Sunday premiere of BIG BROTHER (at 10:07 PM) averaged 2.95 million viewers, 1.0 in adults 25-54 and 0.8 in adults 18-49.
