Regular Season Resumes Monday, May 31, with Episodes Guest Hosted by Mayim Bialik

CULVER CITY, CALIF. (May 28, 2021) ­– Sam Kavanaugh bested Jennifer Quail and Veronica Vichit-Vadakan on Friday night to become the winner of the JEOPARDY! Tournament of Champions presented by Consumer Cellular. Sam Kavanaugh, a substitute teacher from Carlton, Minn., won the $250,000 grand prize; Jennifer Quail, a wine tasting consultant from Dowagiac, Mich., claimed $100,000 for her second-place finish, while Veronica Vichit-Vadakan, a reference and instruction librarian from Portland, Ore., placed third to earn $50,000.

 

The 10-day tournament was hosted by JEOPARDY! All-Star Buzzy Cohen.

 

The $250,000 grand prize will be matched by JEOPARDY! and donated to the Hope of the Valley Trebek Center for the Homeless, in honor of Alex Trebek. The Trebek Center will assist up to 300 people per year with shelter, intensive case management, mental health services, job training and placement, substance abuse counseling, housing navigation, life skill training, and medical care.

On Monday, May 31st, acclaimed actress, podcast host, author, and neurobiologist Mayim Bialik will step in behind the lectern. She chose the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) to receive a donation equal to the winnings of each of the contestants that appear on JEOPARDY! while she takes her turn as guest host. NAMI provides advocacy, education, support, and public awareness so that all individuals and families affected by mental illness can live healthy, fulfilling lives supported by a community that cares.

 

Currently, Bialik is starring in and executive producing “Call Me Kat” on Fox, which was recently picked up for a second season. She is also known for her award-winning role as Amy Farrah Fowler on the hit CBS comedy “The Big Bang Theory,” and lead role in the sitcom “Blossom.”  Outside of the realm of television, she also recently launched her podcast on mental health titled “Mayim Bialik’s Breakdown.”
