Maya on Shooting in Malibu Instead of Hawaii

https://app.cimediacloud.com/mediaboxes/a81619ef52454157b9c91c6276c10d25

Drew: Speaking of when we were babies, we did ‘50 First Dates’ together.

Maya: Oh my god we were babies…And we didn’t have babies. I was fake pregnant in that, like, ‘Oh isn’t that cute.’ I looked like a child.

Drew: And then we did ‘Duplex’ together, which the girls and I just watched, and they loved it. I love that movie.

Maya: I was saying how funny it was with ‘50 First Datescause when I got the call to do it, I was so excited. They said, ‘It’s Drew and Adam in Hawaii and you get to have a pregnant belly,’ and I said that’s great, and then we shot it in Malibu, which is not Hawaii…I have a weird thing that whenever I shoot stuff that is supposed to be Hawaii, its always Malibu. I’m not complaining, I love Malibu, but it’s not Hawaii.

Drew: And Loot which we’re about to talk about takes place in Malibu and not Hawaii. Maybe you’re just destined to be in Malibu.

Maya: Maybe I’m destined for the ‘Bu.

Drew: Maybe Kristen Wiig could write a movie we’re all in together and it films in Hawaii.

Maya: Sign me up.

Drew: And we can pull Adam in.

Maya on Her Friendship with Jack Black

Drew: Now I heard, and I didn’t know this, is it true you went to school with Jack Black?

Maya: Yeah, high school. He was two years older than me, and he transferred in the 10th grade, and I was in 8th. My drama teacher put us together and he was my improv coach for an improv competition we did, and he got me into the improv class and he took me to my first Groundlings show which is where I ended up. So he took me to see my first Groundlings show when I was 14.

Drew: I would have never guessed that we can thank Jack Black for Maya Rudolph.

Maya: I mean honestly, yeah. He was the most inspiring person. First of all, you have to understand something about Jack. Jack has been the same person since the day I met him. The exact same person. He’s just that guy, he’s just special.

Maya and Drew on the SNL Sketch They Did Together

Drew: Okay, we have to talk about ‘Body Fusion’…What’s crazy that week is I remember on SNL they were like, we’re not going to do a short this week. And I was like, ‘No, no, no.’

Maya: Those were the days before they had to do one every single week, because they were so good.

Drew: So, I kept begging, I would go into their office every single day like, ‘I know it’s me again.’

Maya: Are you serious, you had to beg for it?

Drew: Beg.

Maya: Thank God you did, we got ‘Body Fusion.’

Drew: Where did you think to do the version of pencils. Why did you do it the way you did it?

Maya: I really like doing stuff like that. I don’t know. I just like the way it sounds.
