Jessica Capshaw on Meeting Taylor Swift and Texting Her

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/jXo6eZNGWb0r
Drew: We all know infamously like her cat is named Meredith Grey. She's a ‘Grey's Anatomy’ fanatic. Is it true that you saw her somewhere and she bee lined for you?

Jessica: Right.

Drew: What happened?

Jessica: Here's how it happened. I was in a crowded room. I see her across the room and I'm sort of going, ‘Oh, Taylor Swift’s here. That’s so amazing.’ And she looks at me and I look at her and I think ‘Who’s she looking at?’ She was looking at me, she comes over and she says to me, ‘You are one of my favorite protagonists on television.’ And I thought ‘A: Oh my God and B: I’m a protagonist?’

Drew: I was gonna say I love the word protagonist.

Jessica: So that was when we first made our first connection. And then maybe three or four years later, I ran into her in a restaurant and then I invited her to come sit with us and she did and then she, we sat and talked for like an hour and a half. It probably was 45 minutes. It was an hour and a half. It gets better. It actually gets better. She was so lovely. We had so much fun and we were all just talking, chatting, blah, blah, blah. And then I think, we exchanged numbers and then ‘1989’ came out and then my babies were like singing, ‘Shake it Off’ in the bathtub and I would send her videos. And she would respond and then, and then I, and then we went to the ‘1989’ tour and then I think she changed her number.

Drew and Jessica on Knowing Each Other Through Steven Spielberg & Drew Auditioning For “Poltergeist”

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/BiXFVOMJtWsz
Drew: So, her father is Steven Spielberg and so that is my father figure, and he's the only father figure I've had. And we've known each other since elementary school and then being on the set of ‘Temple of Doom,’ which is where he and your mom fell in love.

Jessica: And where we met. So, I met him when I was six. You probably met him when you, how old, six?

Drew: Exactly. I might have been five because I auditioned for ‘Poltergeist.’ And then he said, ‘No this isn’t.’

Jessica: Save her for something else.

Drew: It's not the right thing which of course I was, like, crushed and then he was like, ‘But there's something else’ and I was like, ‘Ok, I'm back.’ I've got another chance.

Jessica: I think that worked out.

Drew: I think it worked out really well.

Jessica on Her Character Arizona Returning to “Grey’s Anatomy”

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/K70smIpLtqSZ

Drew: Arizona was also supposed to be a character that had a three-episode arc and here you've been on the show as long as you want to be, which is a testament to how good you are. And here she is coming back. What have you got?

Jessica: I was, you know, it was 10 years of my life and I had three babies while I was there and I had the most incredible time creating this character and believe you me that it was uphill and downhill, it was easy, it was hard. It was all the things, but it was just the most gratifying experience and as an actor to get to play a character for 10 years was unbelievable. And so when Meg who just took over and is running the show called and said, ‘Hey, would you consider coming back?’ And she, I mean, she sort of teed it up and said, ‘I really like, I, wanna put a dose of what Arizona brought to the show and I feel like you are the one that can bring this moment, which is I want to add this little bit of light and a little bit of joy and a little bit more of the magic around healing and around teaching.’ And I was like, ‘Yes, I'm in.’

Aly Raisman on How Writing Her Children’s Book Helped Her Heal

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/9Bms3B6Lvdhe
Drew: Was writing this book and knowing that you're changing the course of a generation and we move forward in the world in a better way because of you, was this healing to write as well as helpful for others?

Aly: It really was healing, and I thought so much about this. But I really loved and enjoyed the process of writing this children's book, and I really do hope it's the first of many because I'll tell you why I, as I mentioned, I've, you know, have been so supported. But every time I would speak out and share my personal story, I would feel like it was almost like an open wound that wouldn't heal because I'm still in therapy. Every single week I was struggling with PTSD. I'm in exposure therapy every week, and so I'm still healing and working on it. But what I love about this is I'm still able to talk about things that I'm very passionate about talking about mental health, abuse prevention. But I can do it in a way where I don't have to share so much of my own personal experience unless I feel ready to in that moment. So it feels so fulfilling because I get to do what I'm passionate about, but I can do it in a way where it feels healing.

Aly on Attending the Upcoming Olympics and Watching Her Friend Simone Biles

https://app.cimediacloud.com/r/B4UYmGlAk5eG

Drew: The Olympics are coming up. How are you feeling, your friend, Simone Biles, your cohort is going there. Are you going?

Aly: Yes, I will be watching. I'm so excited. I mean, as you mentioned, Simone is, it's so I'm in awe of her because I don't know how she's still going. I mean, I say to my mom all the time, I'm like, ‘I don't know how she's still doing this and she just gets better and better.’ And so I'm in awe of her and I'm so excited. It's gonna be my first time being able to go and watch because when I was competing, I've seen a couple of other events, but gymnastics is typically, you know, throughout the duration of the Olympics. So when we're competing, we're not going to other competitions. So I'm so excited to watch it and it's gonna be so cool.

Drew: Oh my God, I'm so excited to see you there.
