REBECCA JARVIS NAMED NEWSREADER FOR "THE EARLY SHOW," SATURDAY EDITION AS WELL AS BUSINESS AND ECONOMICS CORRESPONDENT FOR CBS NEWS

     Rebecca Jarvis has been named Newsreader for THE EARLY SHOW, Saturday edition as well as Business and Economics Correspondent for CBS News, it was announced today by Sean McManus, President, CBS News and Sports.  She will be based in New York and her appointment is effective today.

 

     "Rebecca does an outstanding job reporting on critical business and consumer affairs and we are delighted that she is joining CBS News," said McManus.  "Rebecca is rigorous and precise and communicates complex economic and financial issues with clarity and in a manner that relates and matters to viewers."

 

     Jarvis joins CBS News from CNBC, where she reported breaking stock, currency, and commodities market news from the New York Stock Exchange, the NASDAQ, and the New York Mercantile Exchange.  While there, Jarvis contributed to MSNBC and NBC News programs, and regularly guest anchored the "Closing Bell," "Squawk on the Street," and "Power Lunch."  Additionally, Jarvis covered prominent national events such as the Chrysler and General Motors bankruptcy, the Bernard Madoff scandal, the collapse of Bear Stearns and Lehman Brothers and the sale of Merrill Lynch as well as the 2008 Presidential elections.

 

     Previously, Jarvis wrote for numerous publications, including Crain's Chicago Business and Business 2.0.  She also has worked in investment banking and foreign currency trading.

 

     Jarvis graduated from the University of Chicago with a degree in Economics and Constitutional Law.  A recipient of the University of Chicago Dean's Grant, she studied European banking and financial markets and the formation of the European Union at the Université Sciences Po in Paris, France.  Jarvis has received national recognition for her work with Colin Powell to empower children and improve communities.  She was named "One of Twenty Teens Who Will Change the World" by Teen People magazine, and named a "National Point of Light," receiving accolades from Presidents Bill Clinton and George Bush, Sr.
