NEARLY SEVEN MILLION VIEWERS WATCH CBS NEWS’ COVERAGE OF PRESIDENT TRUMP’S FIRST STATE OF THE UNION ADDRESS

CBS News Up +6% in Key Demo over 2017

Nearly seven million viewers watched CBS News’ team coverage of President Donald Trump’s first State of the Union Address, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for Jan. 30.

The network delivered 6.99 million viewers and a 1.7 rating with adults 25-54 (up +6% from President Trump’s address to Congress last year). By comparison, NBC was down -22% with adults 25-54, while ABC was off -12% in the demographic desired most by those who advertise in news.

CBS News’ coverage was anchored by CBS THIS MORNING co-hosts Norah O’Donnell, John Dickerson and Gayle King from New York and CBS EVENING NEWS anchor Jeff Glor from the U.S. Capitol. CBS News chief White House correspondent Major Garrett; CBS News chief congressional correspondent Nancy Cordes and CBS News White House and senior foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan reported for the primetime network coverage as well as all CBS News platforms.

CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 streaming news service, kicked off the evening’s coverage at 5:00 PM with CBSN anchor Elaine Quijano and CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY co-host Alex Wagner anchoring from New York with extensive reporting from CBS News’ political reporters and contributors in D.C. and local journalists around the country. CBSN also simulcast CBS News primetime coverage.
