CBS News and Stations’ coverage will include:

  • On Sept. 29, CBS MORNINGS will feature CBS News correspondent Mireya Villarreal digging into the origin story of how a matriarch’s lupus diagnosis and dietary restrictions led her family to create Siete, a nationwide gluten-free Latino food company, now known for its take on tortillas. On Oct. 4, Lilia Luciano interviews award-winning actress Rita Moreno on the state of Latinx representation in Hollywood, the barriers Moreno has overcome throughout her career in show business and how she has helped pave the way for change. Luciano will also interview Gloria Calderon-Kellett, the first Latina to receive an eight-figure development deal with Amazon starting with “With Love.”

  • The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL will feature CBS News correspondent Omar Villafranca’s story on Josie Gutierrez, the Southwest ambassador for Latino Outdoors, an organization working to increase outdoor diversity and education, and Lilia Luciano following Paola Pimienta, who at the age of 21, is the “Reina Escaramuza” for the U.S., the top performer in the country of synchronized equestrian dance derived from charrería, an elaborate and adorned traditional Mexican rodeo. The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL will also air a profile of Roberto Hernandez, a lifelong lowrider and activist who has curated a new exhibit in San Francisco focused on the lowrider lifestyle, and will share the story of Beatriz Acevado, who has developed a financial marketplace that understands the cultural nuances and extended role family plays in Latino decision-making, with the goal of teaching the Latinx community money management and saving skills.

  • CBS Stations will feature inspiring stories and portraits of Latinx people breaking down barriers and driving impact in their communities. KCBS in Los Angeles will profile a Latina nurse staffing a COVID ward and her inspiring journey in the profession, along with a report on efforts by Latinas to grow their ranks in the philanthropy industry. KYW in Philadelphia will sit down with Camden County’s first Latino police chief and first Latina police captain. • CBS News Radio correspondent Lisa Mateo will report a three-part series on Latinos in America for the CBS WEEKEND ROUNDUP starting Sept. 23. Mateo will explore several issues, including why big banks are not funding Latino-owned businesses despite seeing record growth, and why some Latinos say they are hesitant to participate in retirement plans despite a growth in salaries and assets. Mateo will also discuss Latinas in the workforce and college enrollment with the author of Uncolonized Latinas.

  • CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 live, streaming news service, will feature segments throughout the month.
