CBS News’ ROYAL ROMANCE: THE MARRIAGE OF PRINCE HARRY AND MEGHAN MARKLE was Saturday’s #1 non-sports primetime broadcast with viewers, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for May 19.

Anchored by CBS THIS MORNING co-host Gayle King from near Windsor Castle, the two-hour special delivered 4.69 million viewers and a 0.9/03 with adults 25-54, the demographic that matters most to those who advertise in news.

The primetime special capped CBS News’ multi-platform coverage of the royal wedding. CBS News’ broadcast coverage of the wedding from 7:00-9:00 AM delivered 5.34 million viewers, according to Nielsen preliminary live plus same day ratings. Additionally, CBSN drew 5.2 million streams to its coverage on Saturday, with 1.8 million streams between 4:00-10:00 AM, which featured a simulcast of CBS’ broadcast coverage anchored by King and ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT’s Kevin Frazier.

CBS News’ primetime special featured an engaging look at the celebration around the marriage of Prince Harry to Meghan Markle, highlights from the day’s events, as well as a look into the thoroughly modern marriage and its impact on the British monarchy.

Saturday’s primetime broadcast tracked a Markle’s rise from a child activist to royalty, and it featured insight on how her global visibility is already inspiring young African-American girls. It also included a portrait of how Prince Harry has grown into his position in the royal family, as well as his relationship with his brother, Prince William. There was also reaction from fashion experts on Markle’s wedding dress, an interview with photographer Alexi Lubomirski and a report on how the wedding played like a fairy tale. Also included in the special was a report on royal etiquette and a new beginning for Prince Harry and Markle; Markle as a fashion trendsetter; and how a traditional royal ceremony got a totally modern overhaul.
