The “CBS Evening News” Closes the Gap in Adults 25-54 with NBC by 36% and with ABC by 10% Compared to Last Year

For Third Quarter 2021, the “CBS Evening News” Delivers Its Tightest Margin in Adults 25-54 with NBC for a Third Quarter in 15 Years (Since 2006)

The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL finished the 2020-2021 television season in its closest competitive position with “NBC Nightly News” in the key adults 25-54 demographic in 26 years (since 1995), according to Nielsen most current ratings. For the season, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL delivered 5.40 million total viewers and 984,000 in adults 25-54.

The flagship CBS EVENING NEWS broadcast has consistently closed the gap with the competition this season in the key adults 25-54 demographic. CBS has closed the demo gap by 36% with NBC and by 10% with “ABC World News Tonight” compared to last year.

For Third Quarter 2021, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL scored 4.85 million total viewers and 879,000 in adults 25-54, posting its tightest margin in adults 25-54 for a third quarter with NBC in 15 years (since 2006). CBS closed the demo gap among adults 25-54 by 36% with NBC and by 17% with ABC. In total viewers, the CBS EVENING NEWS delivered the smallest gap with NBC for a third quarter since 3Q17 and with ABC since 3Q18.

For the week ending Sept. 17, the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH NORAH O’DONNELL delivered 4.85 million total viewers and 886,000 in adults 35-54. CBS was up +4% week-to-week in both categories, the largest gain among its evening news competitors.
