"CBS THIS MORNING" LISTINGS FOR THE WEEK OF MARCH 7

CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY Planner

March 5, 2016

Anthony Mason & Vinita Nair

Our Feature Stories:

SELF DRIVING CARS:  "Human beings are terrible drivers.  Technology should take the wheel."  That's how Matt Vella's cover story for Time magazine begins.  The Assistant Managing Editor says that driverless cars will make the world safer, more livable and more prosperous.  Vella will join us in studio to share why he believes computers will make better drivers.

AIMING FOR THE STARS:  The International Space Station is home to hundreds of experiments.  But one group of young students here in the US is interested in just one of them. NASA says an elementary school in Virginia is the first to build their own satellite.  The mini satellite hitched a ride on a NASA rocket late last year, and next week, astronauts are set to float the tiny science project into space.  Mark Albert has a preview.

TRAVELING SOLO:  Winter may still have a grip on much of the country, but with spring just around the corner, many people are starting to think about vacation.  Travel magazine AFAR says the new trend in getting away is going solo…  and though it may seem intimidating at first, it's easier and more rewarding than you may think.  Deputy Editor of AFAR magazine, Jennifer Flowers, will join us to talk about the perks of traveling alone.

UKULELES:  The ukulele first appeared in Hawaii more than a century ago and the exotic instrument has been associated with the island life since then.  So it may come as a bit of a surprise that some of the best crafted ukuleles come from the northwest region of Wales.  Jonathan Vigliotti shows us how a furniture designer in Snowdonia became one of the most talented ukulele craftsmen in the world.

THE DISH, MATT JENNINGS: Matt Jennings is a New Englander through and through. His childhood was filled with Red Sox games, making pot pie from scratch, and fishing on the North Shore.  He uses this to influence the cuisine at his restaurant Townsman in Boston, where he is serving up "modern farmhouse cuisine.”  He has received four James Beard Award nominations for "Best Chef: Northeast," Food & Wine named him one of the 40 Under 40 Big Thinkers in the food industry, and Esquire Magazine just named Townsman one of the best new restaurants in the country.  Chef Matt Jennings joins us for this week’s Dish.

SATURDAY SESSIONS, SERATONES:  The four Shreveport, Louisiana natives of the Seratones first met while performing in their hometown's fleeting punk rock scene. In 2014, the four musicians decided to form a band and a year later were already opening for the likes of Houndmouth and St. Paul and the Broken Bones. More recently, the Seratones have been putting the finishing touches on their upcoming debut album, Get Gone. The Seratones will make their national television debut in this week's Saturday Session.
