FOR SECOND CONSECUTIVE WEEK, “CBS THIS MORNING” DELIVERS CBS’ BEST COMPETITIVE POSITION IN VIEWERS TO NBC’S “TODAY” SHOW IN AT LEAST 29 YEARS
“CBS This Morning” Slashes Gap from Second Place to Just 354,000 Viewers
CBS THIS MORNING continued its charge on its morning rivals by delivering CBS’ best competitive position compared to NBC in viewers in at least 29 years, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings for the week ending April 7. This is the second consecutive week that CBS THIS MORNING was the closest CBS has been to NBC in nearly three decades.
CBS THIS MORNING has slashed the gap to just 354,000 between CBS and NBC, cutting down dramatically the nearly 3 million viewer spread that existed when the CBS broadcast began just over five years ago. Only 644,000 viewers separate CBS THIS MORNING from ABC’s “Good Morning America.”
For the week, CBS THIS MORNING delivered 3.725 million viewers (even) and a 0.9/08 in adults 25-54 (even). At the same time, ABC posted 4.369 million viewers (down -9% from last year) and a 1.2/10 in adults 25-54 (down -8%), while NBC posted 4.079 million and a 1.3/11 with adults 25-54 (down -13%).
CBS THIS MORNING is also the only broadcast network morning news program up season-to-date in viewers. The broadcast is up +1% from this point last season (3.692m from 3.645m). ABC is down -7% (4.608m) and NBC is down -6% (4.431m) during the same time period.
CBS THIS MORNING launched Jan. 9, 2012, and each weekday morning, Charlie Rose, Gayle King and Norah O’Donnell deliver two hours of original reporting, breaking news and top-level newsmaker interviews in an engaging and informative format that challenges the norm in network morning news programs. The broadcast has earned a prestigious Peabody Award, a Polk Award, three News & Documentary Emmys and two Daytime Emmys. The broadcast was also honored with an Alfred I. duPont-Columbia Award as part of CBS News division-wide coverage of the shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.
