CBS NEWS KICKS OFF WEEK-LONG, MULTIPLATFORM COVERAGE SURROUNDING THE SUPER BOWL

CBS SUNDAY MORNING,” “FACE THE NATION,” CBSN AND ALL CBS NEWS PLATFORMS WILL PROVIDE ORIGINAL REPORTING, ON-THE-GROUND COVERAGE AND NEWSMAKER INTERVIEWS ALL WEEK

CBS News today kicked off a week of football-themed original reporting surrounding SUPER BOWL LIII that will be featured on all broadcasts and platforms including CBS THIS MORNING; the CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR; CBS SUNDAY MORNING; FACE THE NATION; CBSN, CBS News’ 24/7 live, streaming news service; CBS News Radio; CBS Newspath; and CBSNews.com. CBS News’ division-wide coverage will provide context and perspective to an event that captures the country’s attention, and will take the audience behind the headlines with distinctive, memorable storytelling on all aspects of SUPER BOWL LIII.

A team of CBS News anchors and correspondents will contribute from Atlanta and across the nation throughout the week, including: James Brown, host of THE SUPER BOWL TODAY and a CBS News special correspondent who will be hosting his ninth Super Bowl pre-game show; Dana Jacobson, co-host of CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY and a CBS Sports correspondent; and CBS News correspondent Mark Strassmann.

On Super Bowl Sunday, Margaret Brennan will anchor FACE THE NATION (10:30 AM, check local listings) from the NFL Experience in Atlanta. She will be joined by James Brown and newsmakers from the sports world to discuss the game and current events. Additional details on guests and the segment lineup will be announced in the coming days.

CBS News chief Washington correspondent Major Garrett will host “The Takeout” podcast from Radio Row at the NFL Experience.

CBS News’ coverage plans also include the following:

  • CBS THIS MORNING (7:00-9:00 AM) will feature SUPER BOWL LIII coverage throughout the week including interviews with coaches and players; a conversation with CBS Sports’ Jim Nantz and Tony Romo about how they prepare and what to expect for the match-up; plus a behind-the-scenes look at what law enforcement and the federal government are doing to keep people safe. Toyota, which is a sponsor of CBS THIS MORNING, will exclusively debut its 2019 SUPER BOWL LIII commercial on the broadcast Tuesday morning. CBS THIS MORNING will also explore Atlanta’s music scene and examine the technology inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium, the newest state-of-the-art pro sports facility. Dana Jacobson will talk with Philadelphia Eagles head coach Doug Pederson and his wife, as well as Carolina Panthers head coach Ron Rivera and his wife about what it was like to go all the way to the big game. Jacobson will also bring viewers a high-flying, behind-the-scenes look at what it takes to pull off one of the most carefully choreographed displays of patriotism and military might – the U.S Air Force Thunderbirds Super Bowl flyover – and will show viewers how the CBS Sports broadcast team captures the moment. Mo Rocca and Michelle Miller continue a CBS THIS MORNING Super Bowl tradition as they go tit-for-tat over which team’s home city takes the prize off the field. CBS THIS MORNING will also recap big moments from the game and air interviews with key newsmakers on Monday after the Super Bowl.

  • The CBS EVENING NEWS WITH JEFF GLOR (6:30-7:00 PM, ET) will feature the latest headlines from Glor and the team of CBS News correspondents on all aspects of SUPER BOWL LIII this week. CBS News national security correspondent David Martin will give viewers an exclusive look at the air defenses in place for the game from inside an F-16 jet and provide an up-close look at a simulation exercise. Additional reports will examine how the city is preparing for the crush of visitors and look at how the NFL will address issues like the national anthem controversy and security preparations. Plus, James Brown will report how the Make-A-Wish Foundation is making a young boy’s dream of going to the Super Bowl come true.

  • CBS THIS MORNING: SATURDAY co-hosts Anthony Mason, Michelle Miller and Dana Jacobson will continue the Network’s football-themed coverage on Feb. 2 (check local listings) with the latest news from Atlanta, plus a look at the extensively curated art collection inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium; a report on Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank’s “fan friendly” pricing for concession items; and a profile of Atlanta barbecue chef and restaurateur Brian Furman for “The Dish.”

  • Also on Saturday, CBS WEEKEND NEWS (check local listings) will have the latest news from Atlanta and additional headlines of the day.

  • On Super Bowl Sunday, CBS SUNDAY MORNING (9:00-10:30 AM) will feature Brook Silva-Braga’s report on the history of instant replay starting with the first-ever use, which occurred during CBS’ broadcast of the 1963 Army-Navy game, right through today. Luke Burbank reports on Waffle House, a national restaurant chain, which launched in 1955 in a suburb of Atlanta. CBS Sports’ and CBS News contributor James Brown, along with CBS Sports’ Bill Cowher, Phil Simms, Boomer Esiason and Nate Burleson will let viewers know what to look for and how to watch the big game.

  • FACE THE NATION (10:30-11:30 AM) will broadcast live from the NFL Experience in Atlanta. Anchor Margaret Brennan will be joined by James Brown and other correspondents and newsmakers to discuss the game and current events.

  • CBSN, CBS News' 24/7 streaming news network, will bring viewers up-to-the-minute reporting on breaking news, press conferences and events in Atlanta all week from a team of CBS News correspondents and CBS Sports HQ reporters. Click here to watch CBSN.
