FIRST QUARTER OF 2021 IS THE BROADCAST’S BEST SHOWING AGAINST NBC IN TOTAL VIEWERS IN FOUR YEARS
For the First Quarter 2021, the CBS EVENING NEWS with NORAH O’DONNELL continued to close the gap with the competition, posting its tightest margins in years in all key metrics, according to Nielsen most current ratings.
First Quarter 2021:
The flagship CBS News broadcast ended First Quarter 2021 with its tightest margin for a first quarter in the key adults 25-54 demographic against NBC in 26 years (since 1995) and with ABC since 2019. Compared to First Quarter 2020, CBS closed the demo gap with NBC Nightly News by 42% and with ABC World News Tonight by 4%.
The CBS EVENING NEWS is in its closest competitive position with NBC in the demo for any quarter since 2Q2017 and in total viewers since 2Q2019.
Season-to-date, the CBS EVENING NEWS with NORAH O’DONNELL is maintaining its audience while NBC continues to shed total viewers (-4%) and decline among adults 25-54 (-13%). The CBS EVENING NEWS has closed the demo gap with NBC by 29%; in total viewers, Among Total Viewers, CBS has closed the gap with NBC by 13% compared to last season.
Week of March 22:
For the week of March 22, the CBS EVENING NEWS with NORAH O’DONNELL was the #1 show on the CBS Television Network on Wednesday and Thursday and was the Network’s top-ranked program in adults 25-54 on Tuesday and Thursday.
The CBS EVENING NEWS with NORAH O’DONNELL delivered 5.2 million total viewers and 961,000 in adults 25-54, according to Nielsen live plus same day ratings. (The broadcast was partially preempted on Monday due to the NCAA Basketball Tournament.)
