2010 NCAA(R) MARCH MADNESS(R) ON DEMAND REACHES NEW TRAFFIC HEIGHTS

With Over 11.7 Million Hours of Live Streaming Video and Audio Recorded,

 Total Consumption Grows 36%, Shattering 2009 Figures  

Internet Consumption of March Madness Complements

Growth of CBS Sports Television Ratings

 

            FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - April 6, 2010 - CBSSports.com, in partnership with CBS Sports and the NCAA, today released traffic statistics for NCAA March Madness on Demand (mmod.ncaa.com) through the conclusion of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.  In total, there were over 11.7 million hours of live streaming video and audio consumed by 8.3 million unique visitors to the NCAA March Madness on Demand (MMOD) video players - up 36% compared to 2009 figures.  The growth of NCAA MMOD complements CBS Sports' television broadcast of the Tournament, which grew 5% over 2009's ratings.  (CBS Sports' average overnight household rating/share for the overall Tournament was a 6.6/14, up 5% compared to last year's 6.3/13 in the metered markets.)

 

            575,000 unique visitors (up 70% from 2009) watched the final game of the NCAA Tournament between Duke and Butler on the NCAA MMOD video player, consuming 368,000 hours of action (up 72% from 2009).  This growth mirrors the ratings success for CBS Sports' television broadcast of the Men's final, which earned an average overnight household rating/share of 16.0/25, up 34% compared to last year's 11.9/19 (North Carolina-Michigan State) in the metered markets.

 

            Additionally, the NCAA MMOD "Boss Button" was clicked 3.94 million times over the course of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship.  The 2010 Boss Button was redesigned for the Tournament by cartoonist Scott Adams, creator of the Dilbert comic.  Click here to view the 2010 Boss Button.

•·        Over 11.7 million total hours of live streaming video and audio consumed.

 

•·        8.3 million unique visitors to the NCAA MMOD video players.

 

•·        575,000 unique visitors (+70%) consumed 368,000 hours (+72%) of action for the final game of the Men's Final Four® between Duke and Butler (growth vs. 2009 final).

 

•·        3.94 million clicks of the "Boss Button," up 42% over the total clicks of the Boss Button for the entire 2009 tournament (2.77 million).
