CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR: RBS PRESENTS JACK AND ARNIE: TALKIN' GOLF

GOLF LEGENDS INTERVIEWED TOGETHER FOR FIRST TIME
IN TWO-PART SPECIAL BROADCAST ON JUNE 4 & JULY 2

CBS Sports golf anchor Jim Nantz hosts a memorable special with golf legends Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer in their first-ever sit down television interview together. CBS SPORTS SPECTACULAR: RBS PRESENTS JACK AND ARNIE: TALKIN' GOLF will be broadcast in two half-hour specials, Sunday, June 4 (1:30-2:00 PM, ET) and Sunday, July 2 (2:30-3:00 PM, ET), on the CBS Television Network

Jack and Arnie are credited with turning golf into the major spectator sport it has become. Together they combined for 134 titles on the PGA TOUR, including a combined 25 Major titles. Nicklaus won 73 titles, including six Masters'® green jackets, and Palmer won 61, including four Masters, while playing on the PGA TOUR.

In this exclusive television interview, Jack and Arnie sit down together with Nantz and talk about the first time they met; the first time they competed against each other; what it was like being the leading golfers of their generation; their long-time rivalry; their fathers; and their lives now as good friends. Jack and Arnie, two of the most popular and influential forces in golf from the 1960s to the 1990s, share many compelling stories and memories of their lives as they intertwined.

This first half-hour of the interview leads into the final round of the MEMORIAL TOURNAMENT Presented by Morgan Stanley -- a Jack Nicklaus-hosted PGA TOUR event – Sunday, June 4 (2:00-6:00 PM, ET) on CBS.

Excerpts from first special:

(On 1962 Phoenix Open playing competively for first time in final group): Jack: "I'll never forget coming to the 18th hole…I walked up on the 18th tee…I needed a birdie to finish second in the tournament and Arnold said to me, and he was going to win the tournament, it was quite obvious, and he said, 'Be relaxed. Come on you can birdie this hole. You can finish second in this golf tournament…That will be a great thing for you.' He never remembered it. I always remembered that gesture…I won $3400 for finishing second place and Arnold won the tournament. He absolutely killed me. Arnie: If he didn't take the advice of his senior what would he do? Yes I do remember because I was very impressed with Jack's golf and I said to some of my friends at the time, this guy is going to be tough…That's one prediction I made that was right.

(On Jack and Arnie playing against each other after 1962 U.S. Open): Arnie: It got so heavy sometimes Jim. People don't know this – Jack and I both know it. There were a number of tournaments…major tournaments…we got to playing each other, and of course both of us know the rules – you don't play each other in a medal play tournament - you play to win the golf tournament. But we got to playing each other so hard that we blew the tournament. Someone else came right by and beat us both. Jack: And that happened more then once.
