Actor Danny Glover Narrates Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo Segment

CBS Sports is set to broadcast the second episode of its new franchise, Beyond Limits, on the CBS Television Network and streaming live on Paramount+ on Saturday, Oct. 9 (2:00 PM, ET).

The series highlights trailblazing, diverse athletes in sports where they are under-represented. The second episode will feature interviews with skateboarder Dashawn Jordan, current and former LPGA Tour players Mariah Stackhouse and Renee Powell, Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo riders, including Ezekiel Mitchell, preparing for their event in partnership with PBR that aired on Juneteenth on the CBS Television Network, and women’s hockey player Saroya Tinker.

Danny Glover, who was involved and supported the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo in its early years, sits down for an interview and narrates the segment. Click here for a clip.

The series is hosted by CBS Sports’ reporter AJ Ross, and Monica McNutt.

The third and final episode of season one will air on Saturday, Oct. 30 (2:00 PM, ET).

  • Dashawn Jordan, Skateboard

    • At the age of 11, Dashawn Jordan took up skateboarding, and his “hobby” would quickly turn into a profession, as he won the Phoenix stop in the Element—Make it Count contest in 2013. McNutt and Jordan discuss his early beginnings in the sport, and his success at the 2021 US National Street Skateboarding Championships.

  • Renee Powell & Mariah Stackhouse, Golf

    • LPGA Tour professional Mariah Stackhouse meets her idol Renee Powell – the second Black woman to play on the LPGA Tour – for the first time, as Stackhouse plays the KPMG Classic at Bobby Jones Golf Course in her hometown of Atlanta. The course also hosts the inaugural Renee Powell Clearview Legacy Benefit celebrating Clearview Golf Course’s 75^th anniversary, where Powell currently serves as the Head Professional.

  • Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo

    • Founded in 1984 by Lu Vason, The Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo sought to preserve and continue a story seldom told: the legacy of the Black cowboy and cowgirl. CBS Sports’ takes a look behind-the-scenes and talks to key figures from the Bill Pickett Invitational Rodeo, as prominent Black cowboys and cowgirls prepared for a seminal moment. The rodeo, which aired on Juneteenth on the CBS Television Network, was the first all-Black rodeo to be broadcast nationally.

      • Interviews include: Danny Glover, Ezekiel Mitchell, Charles “Pee Wee” Sampson, Fred Whitfield, Glynn Turman, Obba Babatunde’, Valeria Howard-Cunningham and Carolyn Carter.

  • Saroya Tinker, Hockey

    • Born in Calgary, Canada, Saroya Tinker was introduced to hockey by her father at the age of three and would become a force in the sport. After starring at Yale University, she was drafted No. 4 overall in the Premier Hockey Federation (formerly National Women’s Hockey League). Ross sits down with Tinker to learn about her journey to becoming an advocate for systemic change, and Tinker revealed the many challenges she and her family faced throughout her tenure in the game.
