CBS SPORTS ANNOUNCES EXPANDED ROLE FOR RULES ANALYST GENE STERATORE TO INCLUDE “SEC ON CBS”

Steratore will now provide rules analysis for Network’s coverage of “NFL ON CBS,” “SEC ON CBS” and NCAA Basketball

CBS Sports has expanded the role for rules analyst Gene Steratore by adding the former football and basketball referee to coverage of the SEC ON CBS. Steratore, who joined CBS last year, will continue as rules analyst for both THE NFL ON CBS and college basketball, including the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship. The announcement was made today by Sean McManus, Chairman, CBS Sports.

“Gene had an impressive first season. Expanding his role to include the SEC ON CBS felt like a natural progression,” said McManus. “His knowledge and expertise of the rules, combined with his ability to quickly interpret and explain calls in a concise manner, will allow him to adjust to the nuances and differences of the college game and provide our viewers with a better understanding of the rules.”

Steratore, who will provide rules analysis for the SEC ON CBS from the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City, officiated college football for 15 years before entering the NFL as a field judge in 2003. He was promoted to referee in 2006 and worked 12 playoff games, finishing his on-field career as the referee in Super Bowl LII. Additionally, he officiated NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball for more than two decades, working numerous Conference and NCAA Tournament games.

The SEC ON CBS, the highest-rated regular-season college football package on any network for 10 consecutive seasons, kicks off on Sept. 14 with Alabama visiting South Carolina (3:30 PM, ET).
