New York, NY — July 9, 2019 – Two dogs inside a stolen RV during the wild high-speed police chase two months ago luckily survived, despite one jumping from the fast-moving vehicle and the other having endured several collisions. The woman who was driving the RV was arrested after the pursuit, but authorities determined that she was not the owner of the dogs.
When the dogs’ original owners never came forward, “Foxy and the Hounds,” the non-profit dog rescue organization that nursed the dogs back to health, reached out to INSIDE EDITION to help find the best “forever homes.”
Now, in an exclusive airing on Tuesday, INSIDE EDITION meets up with the dogs’ new owners, Jen Latham and Shawn Mooers, from Bend, Ore., as they meet their new furry friends.
The couple was one of more than 2,000 applicants that wanted to adopt the dogs. However, the “forever families” were required to have experience with mastiffs. It turns out Latham has more than 20-years’ experience with the breed.
Latham tells INSIDE EDITION that like millions of others, they watched the high-speed chase on television. “Right when I saw the story, I looked at Shawn and I said, ‘I feel like these dogs are supposed to be mine,” she says.
After a tedious vetting process and a 13-hour drive to Los Angeles, the adoption is finally official.
During the sweet reunion, Latham gushes, “They’re beautiful and loving and smart and already really well-behaved.”
