Marie Kondo on Incorporating Children Into The KonMari Method Process
Drew: I can’t even look at a door knob without thinking what would Marie say?
Marie: You have truly mastered the KonMari Method.
Drew: I have a question, when I first discovered Marie Kondo I was a hoarder, I had fifteen layers to everything. The chair had a pillow and a throw blanket, I wonder when you do start to take away and go layer by layer and get to more sane place, less crazy place, something that feels more settled and calm. What do you do when life and kids and the natural layers of things comes back in?
Marie: With children it’s really easy to accumulate a lot of items and clutter but in those instances I work with the children to talk to them, ‘Hey, what sparks joy? What makes you happy?’ And I have them, you integrate them into the process.
Drew: Oh, oh yeah no I wasn’t doing that. So now I should go with my children and take them through their things and figure out what sparks joy for them and then we can prioritize what we should keep and what we should let go of, is that the right advice?
Marie: Absolutely, talk about this with your kids and it’s very important that at a young age they understand what it means to spark joy and what sparks joy to them.
Rachael Ray on 15 Seasons of Her Daytime Show
Drew: I am such a spring chicken here and you are such an incredible vet. Your roster of guests Rachael is one of the most impressive things I’ve ever seen. Does it make you so proud?
Rachael: I just feel grateful really. It’s not really a pride thing for me, it’s that you have the opportunity to have conversations with everyone and some, Michelle Obama I’ve known since before she was First Lady, and we worked together on children’s initiatives and improving school food her entire time as First Lady. You know what I love about our show and the show you are new to and developing there is when you can have on stories of real people and you can just share the lives of your viewers with a larger community where people can look to their neighbors and people that sound and look like them to be their inspiration. Those shows mean as much to me, seriously, as talking to a First Lady or big stars like Drew Barrymore, who was recently on our TV show.
Drew: Which meant the world to me to be on your show because I felt like I was joining a roster of such elevated people. Your magazine, your show, your cook books, you are such a hero to me, I am so excited to be in your world.
