Press Release back to list

Veteran television stations executive Chris Cotugno has been named Vice President and General Manager of the CBS Television Stations’ Pittsburgh properties, KDKA-TV, WPCW-TV, and CBSN Pittsburgh, a local direct-to-consumer streaming news service that is expected to launch by early 2020. The announcement was made today by Peter Dunn, President, CBS Television Stations. Cotugno is succeeding Jay Howell, who earlier this year was named President and General Manager of the Company’s local media properties in Los Angeles.

Cotugno has been with KDKA and WPCW for more than 17 years as the stations’ Director of Sales. His 22 years of experience in the Pittsburgh market also includes four years with WPGH-TV and WCWB-TV, where he held a number of sales management positions.

“Chris has for many years been a major contributor to our continuing success in Pittsburgh, so it gives us great pleasure to recognize his talent and leadership abilities with this promotion,” said Dunn. “We believe his deep roots in the market and strong relationships with clients, community partners and his colleagues will serve him well as he assumes responsibility for overseeing our legacy station in Pittsburgh and leading the expansion of our digital platforms.”

“It is a tremendous honor to be part of the KDKA and the CBS/CW Pittsburgh family, so I feel extremely fortunate and excited to have the opportunity to lead our operations,” Cotugno said. “I am grateful to Peter and everyone else at CBS for their faith in me and the support they have always provided. I am privileged to be part of a terrific team here and look forward to continuing to work with my colleagues to uphold KDKA’s legacy and grow our business by making our premium local content available to viewers whenever and wherever they want to watch.”

Cotugno’s local television experience also includes positions with stations in Tampa, Orlando and Las Vegas.

Prior to his work in local television, Cotugno served in the United States Air Force. He met his wife, Peggy, also an Air Force veteran, when they both were stationed at Royal Air Force Bentwaters in England. Chris and Peggy are the proud parents of three adult children, who were all raised in Pittsburgh.

Cotugno graduated from Thomas Edison State University in Trenton, N.J. with a degree in liberal arts. He is active in Toastmasters and Junior Achievement.
