New Original Series From MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios to Launch on Sunday, Dec. 19

Dec. 6, 2021 - Paramount+ and MTV Entertainment Studios today announced that Academy Award® Nominee Graham Greene will join the cast of the highly anticipated original series 1883, the prequel to the Emmy® nominated “Yellowstone,” cable’s highest rated series. Premiering Sunday, December 19 on Paramount+, 1883 is created by Academy Award® Nominee Taylor Sheridan and produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios.

1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana. Greene will play Spotted Eagle, a Crow elder who spots the wagon train and tells James Dutton about the place, Paradise Valley, where he should settle with his family.

Born in Ohsweken, Ontario, Canada, Greene’s most recent credits include a recurring arc on “Longmire,” “Winter’s Tale,” “Wind River,” “Molly’s Game,” “Goliath,” “A Dark Foe” and “Blue Ridge.” He received an Oscar nomination for his role in “Dances with Wolves” and has since appeared in several films, including “Die Hard with a Vengeance,” “North,” “Green Mile,” “Maverick” and “Snow Dogs.” Among his many television credits are “Exhibit A,” “Rocket Science,” “Wolf Lake,” “The Red Green Show,” “North of Sixty” and “Dudley the Dragon,” for which he won two Gemini Awards. His stage credits include “The Crackwalker,” “Jessica,” “History of the Village of the Small Huts” and “Dry Lips Oughta Move to Kapuskasing,” for which Greene won the Dora Mavor Moore Award for Best Actor. Greene was also the recipient of several Best Actor Awards for his roles in “Skins,” “The Education of Little tree” and “Northern Exposure” at the First Americans in the Arts Film Awards and the Japan Film Festival, and received a Grammy for his narration work with Winton Marsalis and Kate Winslet in “Listen to the Story Teller.” He also received the Order of Canada in 2016.

Greene joins 1883’s stellar ensemble cast, including Academy Award® nominee Sam Elliott, Grammy Award® Winner Tim McGraw, Grammy Award® Winner Faith Hill, Academy Award® winner Billy Bob Thornton, Isabel May (“Alexa & Katie”), LaMonica Garrett (“Arrow”), Audie Rick (“Kenobi: A Star Wars Story”), Marc Rissmann (“Game of Thrones”), Eric Nelsen (“The Affair”) and James Landry Hébert (“Once Upon A Time In Hollywood”). Additional cast includes Dawn Olivieri (“Bright”), Emma Malouff (“American Crime Story”), Anna Fiamora (“A Shining Moment”), Nichole Galicia (“Django Unchained”), Stephanie Nur (“Four Women and a Funeral”), Amanda Jaros (“Women of the Movement”), Noah Le Gros (“A Score to Settle”), Martin Sensmeier (“Yellowstone”) and introducing Alex Fine and Gratiela Brancusi.

1883 is executive produced by Sheridan, John Linson, Art Linson, David C. Glasser, Ron Burkle and Bob Yari.

Paramount Network will air a special simulcast premiere event for 1883 on Sunday, Dec. 19, following a new episode of YELLOWSTONE.
