COMEDIAN/ACTOR RICHARD BELZER SIGNS TWO-BOOK DEAL WITH SIMON & SCHUSTER

(New York, New York, June 25, 2007)  Standup comic, actor, and author Richard Belzer has signed a two-book deal with Simon & Schuster to write a mystery series featuring the author as himself, a TV actor who gets wrapped up in a real mystery.  The first novel in the series, I AM NOT A COP, will be published in Fall 2008.

Simon & Schuster Executive VP & Publisher David Rosenthal and Senior Editor Colin Fox negotiated the deal with Eric Gardner of Panacea Entertainment, who represents Mr. Belzer.

Richard Belzer plays the acerbic Detective John Munch on Wolf Films/NBC Universal Television's "Law & Order: Special Victims Unit," after first portraying Munch on NBC's critically acclaimed drama series "Homicide: Life on the Street" for seven seasons.  Richard in fact has made television history by portraying Detective Munch in nine different television series. Mr. Belzer is also the author of "UFOs, JFK and Elvis: Conspiracies You Don't Have to Be Crazy to Believe," and is the co-author of "How to Be a Standup Comic."

"Whatever the format, Richard Belzer is a great entertainer," said David Rosenthal.

"It is with great enthusiasm that I will bring the world of show business, celebrity worship, sly social commentary, and even ‘cameos' by real celebrities into my literary adventures," said Richard Belzer.  "A potent mix of Dashiell Hammett, Oscar Wilde, Lenny Bruce, and Robert Altman seasoned by the Belzerian vision of life, as the wry and raucous, raunchy worlds of make believe and reality converge...this is the first ‘Reality Novel' of the new millennium that explores a unique universe that poses the question...'What is Reality?'"

Mr. Belzer will be co-writing with collaborator Mike Black.
