CBS Paramount International Television Licenses ‘Entertainment Tonight’ Format Rights To Global Television

August 30, 2005, Hollywood, CA – CBS Paramount International Television has entered into an exclusive agreement to launch Canada’s first locally-produced version of the venerable U.S. hit, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT with Global Television in Canada. The deal was jointly announced today by Armando Nunez, Jr., President, CBS Paramount International Television and Kathleen A. Dore, President Television and Radio, CanWest MediaWorks (parent company of Global Television Network).

The half-hour daily Canadian-centric version of ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT is scheduled to premiere September 12, 2005 at 7:00 p.m. and will be followed by the U.S. version at 7:30 in most provinces. The premiere is scheduled during the Toronto Film Festival, when the entertainment industry focus is on Canada.

In making the announcement, Nunez commented, "We are very excited to be able to further expand the ‘Entertainment Tonight’ brand through our partnership with Global that was established 16 years ago.” Nunez added, “This collaboration further enhances the franchise by creating a show that compliments the U.S. version by customizing it in a local fashion for a Canadian audience.”

Terry Wood, President, Creative Affairs & Development, King World Productions & Paramount Domestic Television commented, “We're thrilled with this bold new format because it gives Canadian viewers a unique daily experience in entertainment news. By combining the production forces at ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT and ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA, the audience will have the Canadian perspective of the entertainment industry while still getting the Hollywood experience that the U.S. show has provided Canadians for many years.”

CanWest MediaWorks' Dore said, "We're delighted to launch our daily entertainment show in collaboration with Entertainment Tonight, the world's foremost entertainment brand. Entertainment Tonight Canada provides us with a unique opportunity to showcase Canada's innovative and talented creative community. We're equally excited to be expanding the long partnership we have with CBS Paramount International Television in bringing the best in television entertainment to Canadian audiences."

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA will give a Canadian perspective to global entertainment events, as well as providing a focus on the Canadian entertainment business and Canadian celebrities. ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA will be produced in-house at Global Television and hosted by Cheryl Hickey. Cheryl has been an Entertainment Reporter / Host for Global TV for over 6 years.

Global Television will also produce original entertainment news stories that are branded ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT CANADA to air as two to five minute interstitials throughout the day and will include tune-in information for the two series.

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT began its run on Global Television in the Fall of 1991 and sibling series THE INSIDER began airing last year, its inaugural season, on Global’s sister station CH TV.

This is the second local version of ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT to launch this year. In January, Sky Television in the United Kingdom premiered its own customized ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT program. The U.K. show will launch its second season on September 2nd at 6 PM on Sky One.

Currently in its 25th season, ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT is the #1 syndicated entertainment newsmagazine in the world. Produced and distributed by Paramount Domestic Television.
