Press Release back to list

CBS Studios International and Scoope Media today announced a landmark international licensing agreement for an African version of THE DOCTORS television series. Scoop! SVOD platform will be the exclusive premiere home of THE DOCTORS in Africa, followed by premieres on free-to-air and pay TV broadcasters across the continent. This is the first major international format in Africa for start up platform “Scoop!”

Produced by Scoope Media U.K., each episode of the highly anticipated show will feature African doctors and stories from patients on the continent, premiering in the last quarter of 2019.

Roxanne Pompa, Vice President of Formats, for CBS Studios International negotiated the deal with Dr. Dayo Osholowu, Executive Producer and host of the series. “It’s terrific that CBS Studios International and Dr. Osholowu are bringing such a globally recognized format like THE DOCTORS to Africa,” said Pompa. “This is a show that empowers its viewers with insight and information, and will serve as a public service for the broad and engaged audiences found across the African continent.”

Ibukun Lasisi, Vice President, Scoope Media, commented: “This is a huge development for healthcare in Africa as we work with CBS to broaden its global reach of The Doctors brand. A pilot has been shot and it looks fantastic. We are working closely with the leading doctors, healthcare-focused brands and the leading broadcasters across the market to deliver a show that will do more for healthcare in Africa. I can’t wait for Africa to see this and the scale of impact it will deliver for people across the continent.”

The African version will be an hour-long syndicated program that will offer timely, topical, and practical health, wellness and lifestyle information across the continent.  THE DOCTORS delves into real life stories, celebrity exclusives, and will provide sought after answers, interventions, and care.

From the creators of DR. PHIL, the U.S. version of THE DOCTORS has been recognized for excellence, winning the Emmy® Award for Outstanding Talk Show/Informative in 2010 and has been nominated six times in the category.  In addition, the co-hosts received consecutive Emmy® nominations for Outstanding Talk Show Host in 2011 and 2012.
