CULVER CITY, CALIF. (September 11, 2023) – JEOPARDY! will kick off its 40^th season in syndication on Monday, September 11, with the Season 37 JEOPARDY! Second Chance competition, brought to you by Moderna. JEOPARDY! Second Chance features 27 select contestants from Season 37 who didn’t become JEOPARDY! champions in their initial appearances returning to the Alex Trebek Stage for the chance to change their destinies.

Season 37 Second Chance consists of three week-long mini-tournaments airing the weeks of September 11, September 18, and September 25. The winner of each week will take home $35,000 and punch their ticket to the Season 37/38 JEOPARDY! Champions Wildcard competition. Second Chance is brought to you by Moderna, a biotechnology company pioneering messenger RNA (mRNA) therapeutics and vaccines, who will release its updated COVID-19 vaccine this fall.

Champions Wildcard is a brand-new format making its debut this season. For the first time ever, players who won one, two, or three games in Seasons 37 and 38 but did not qualify for the Tournament of Champions in those seasons will be invited back to compete for a berth in the next ToC. Champions Wildcard begins airing Monday, October 2.

JEOPARDY! Season 40 will also see a bump in the prize money awarded to second and third place finishers: for the first time in many years, JEOPARDY! has increased both by $1,000: second place will now go home with $3,000, while third place will leave with $2,000.
